The Burton store was probably built in the early or mid 20th century. The store appears to have occupied nos. 338-340 only, as shown in this photograph by the marks of the 'Burton' sign on the left of the dark stone fascia. The premises were later occupied by Nationwide, Peter Lord shoes and Abbey National bank. By the early 2000s, Clarks (formerly Peter Lord) occupied no. 340 and Santander (formerly Abbey National) occupied nos. 336-338.
