Description

The building was constructed in around 1930. The premises was originally occupied by Burton, Woolworth's and The British Shoe stores. The transom lights of the Burton store featured the 'chain of merit': a chain of elongated hexagons or lozenges which included the locations of important Burton stores. The building had been altered slightly by the early 21st century, including the removal of the shopfront and chain of merit. The north elevation was partially covered by the addition of a wing of The Victory Centre shopping precinct which opened in the 1990s.
