The shop was built as a Burton store. Foundation stones were laid by Barbara Jessie Burton and Raymond Montague Burton in 1931. The building was later occupied by shops and bars including Finlays tobacconists, Beatties toy shop, Trents, Footplate & Firkin, The Bedroom, The Glass House and Ellingtons.
