Description

The item was copied from a plan drawn up for Joseph Stower, Land Agent and Auctioneer, of forty-two Chancery Lane, London WC. The abbey and grounds are shown. The copy is in sepia, with extensive annotations in pencil. These include 'Plan 3' as a label, and measurements and lines drawn on parts of the buildings and grounds. 'Battle Abbey' has been added as a title in ink, and the approximate scale pencilled in. The date of the original is uncertain but could be 1901, after the departure of the Duchess of Cleveland, when the estate was put up for sale. The copy probably dates from 1976.
