Description

The original caption reads: "A view from County Hall. On the left is seen the 'Skylon' emerging from behind the Dome of Discovery. In the middle of the picture is the Natural Resources Pavilion, in the right foreground is the Canopy over Chichely St gate entrance, and on the extreme right is the Screen for York Road. On the mid horizon rises the Shot Tower."

The South Bank Exhibition was built on a 27 acre site on the South Bank of the River Thames. The area had been damaged by bombing during the Second World War, and remaining buildings were demolished. The site was divided into the Upstream and Downstream Pavilions, built between 1949 and 1951.
