Description

The original caption reads: "In the Lion and Unicorn Pavilion, South Bank Exhibition, Festival of Britain. Rope models of the British Lion and that fabulous animal dear to medieval travellers, the Unicorn."

The Pavilion was intended to display "British character and tradition". The large straw models in the entrance hall were made by Fred Mizen, an agricultural worker and expert in straw work. They were intended to demonstrate a traditional British craft.
