Bertha (539-c. 612) became the queen of Kent following her marriage to King Ethelberht of Kent. She was canonized as a saint because of her influence in introducing Christianity to Anglo-Saxon England. She established St Martin's as her private chapel. St Martin's is reputed to be the oldest church in the English-speaking world.
