Description

Erected by the Fraternity of the Holy Cross in 1446. In 1553, Christ's Hospital was created by royal charter and the governors were given enlarged powers to help economically-disadvantaged people. It was previously known as St Helen's Hospital, the hall is part of the Long Alley Almshouses, dating from the 15th century to the 17th century.

This photograph was withdrawn from the open Red Box Collection for conservation reasons during the 2011-2012 Red Box Project.
