A country house constructed from 1603 to 1618 for Walter Jones, possibly by Robert Smythson, Chastleton House also underwent minor later additions and alterations as indicated by two downpipes bearing the dates 1771 and 1794. The house is of coursed and dressed marlstone rubble with limestone ashlar dressings and slate roofs. It is in a basic square plan around a central courtyard and on either side are two massive projecting staircase towers.
