The school was built circa 1450, at the expense of the Earl and Countess of Suffolk. The countess (nee Alice Chaucer) was born in Ewelme in 1400, the daughter of Thomas Chaucer, the lord of the manor, and grand-daughter of Geoffrey, the poet. The 15th century double door is decorated with a Perpendicular tracery pattern, ribbing and studding.
On the reverse of the print it states 'Door moved from church', this could relate to the parish church of St Mary the Virgin in Ewelme.
This photograph was withdrawn from the open Red Box Collection for conservation reasons during the 2011-2012 Red Box Project.
