Description

On the back of the print is the handwritten note: 'Excavations for site of Abingdon Abbey in grounds of "The Abbey" (now (1942) General Cooper's) - some years before the big excavation in the grounds of "The Abbey House" 1922/3. Photograph by H. W. Taunt who thought this was the site of Hean's Church - but he never convinced Mr Preston- this seemed insufficient evidence - doubtless some of the abbey buildings were on this site'.
