Description

The original caption reads: "The Entrance Front of the Royal Festival Hall, South Bank Exhibition, Festival of Britain 1951. The group to the right of the door is Frank Dobson's "London Pride"."

The Royal Festival Hall was London County Council's contribution to the Festival of Britain. The building was constructed in 1949-1951 and was altered in the early 1960s. It includes design features for sound insulation, including an 'egg in box' concept of enclosing the auditorium within the building envelope.
