Description

The original caption reads: "South Bank Exhibition. A view from County Hall. On the left is the Power and Production Pavilion and on the right the Natural Resources Pavilion. The "Skylon" is seen rising from behind the Dome of Discovery in the distance, on the right, is seen part of the Royal Festival Hall and Shot Tower. On the left foreground are the roofs of the Royal Pavilion and Administration Block."

The South Bank Exhibition was built on a 27 acre site on the South Bank of the River Thames. The area had been damaged by bombing during the Second World War, and remaining buildings were demolished. The site was divided into the Upstream and Downstream Pavilions, built between 1949 and 1951.
