Description

The original caption reads: ""The Embankment Fellowship Centre, Belvedere Road" by W. Fairclough. One of the pictures commissioned by the Arts Council for Recording South Bank, London for the Festival of Britain 1951."

The centre opened in 1932 and initially provided a canteen and recreational room for destitute ex-servicemen at 59a Belvedere Road. It later expanded to become known as the Embankment Fellowship Centre. The building was demolished when the site was redeveloped as part of the South Bank Exhibition for the Festival of Britain.
