Description

The original caption reads: "Downstream section, South Bank Exhibition site, Festival of Britain 1951."

The South Bank Exhibition was built on a 27 acre site on the South Bank of the River Thames. The area had been damaged by bombing during the Second World War, and remaining buildings were demolished. The site was divided into the Upstream and Downstream Pavilions, built between 1949 and 1951.
