"Miss Constance Howard has designed and is supervising the making of an appliqued and embroidered mural which depicts activities of women's Institutes (sic). The mural is 18 ft. 3 ins by 12 ft 9 ins and is to be hung in the Country Pavilion, South Bank Exhibition, Festival of Britain 1951. This picture shows Miss Howard on the extreme left and some of the ex-students and part time students of Goldsmith's (sic) School of Art who are working on the mural."
The mural was known as 'The Country Wife'. It featured craftworks which were made by the members of the Women's Institute, and was given to the National Federation of Women's Institutes at the end of the Festival of Britain. The mural was later transferred to the National Needlework Archive.
