Description

The original caption reads: "Festival of Britain 1951. South Bank Exhibition, Pantechnicon Pavilion. Section Designers for interior Neville Conder and Patience Clifford. A general view of the inside of the Pavilion which contains a stop-press selection of goods not available at the time the main catalogued was compiled. In the background section of house; on right cascade of plastic goods."

The Pantechnicon Pavilion was a canvas and metal structure, designed by Denis Clarke Hall, at the entrance to the Homes and Gardens Pavilion. It encouraged visitors to consider ideas about the home, and presented a series of roomsets and exhibits on the themes of a "good family" and the "commodity of space". The theme and exhibits were brought together by the architects Conder and Clifford.
