Description

The new Ambassador's residence in Rio de Janeiro, shown here, was officially opened in June 1950, but within five years of opening, it was announced that that capital of Brazil would move from Rio de Janeiro to Brasilia, with the whole embassy relocating there in 1970. The Ambassador's residence in Rio de Janeiro was sold in 1975, and is now (2024) the official residence of the Mayor of Rio.
