Description

In 1944 the Ministry of Works built a small estate of prefabricated houses and flats on Edward Road and West End Gardens, Northolt to understand more about the costs and efficiencies associated with different construction methods.

The Foam Slag House was unit 2 of the demonstration estate and was part of a selection of houses constructed through poured concrete techniques. The slag was produced as a by-product of the iron and steel industries.
