In 1905, the Society of the Sacred Heart purchased the 18th Century building known as Fenham Hall and established a school and teacher training college on the site. The complex between Fenham Hall Drive and Cedar Road housed the convent, chapel, schools and higher education college, known as St. Mary’s. The University of Newcastle also used the site for student accommodation. The college closed in 1984, whereupon the entire building became student accommodation for the University of Newcastle, which it remains as of 2019.
The Reavell and Cahill architects appear to have undertaken work across the Sacred Heart campus during the late 1960s and early 1970s.
This is part of the Volume: RAC01/01/06 Reavell and Cahill- album "Schools"; within the Series: RAC01/01 Reavell and Cahill - series of albums; within the Collection: RAC01 Reavell and Cahill, Architects
