Description

The series consists of a brown paper album containing forty-nine photographic prints, two inkjet prints of digital photographs and two greetings cards.

The album, entitled ‘Euston Station – “Doric Arch”: Demolition Nov 1961– Mar 1962’, was compiled by Bruce Allen Ormerod, the resident British Railways engineer at Euston in the 1960s. It contains images of Euston Arch, the 19th century propylaeum at the front of Euston Station, just prior to and during its demolition, as well as photographs of paintings and engravings showing the site at an earlier date. At the end of the album there are a small number of colour photographs of scale models of Euston Arch, and a necklace pendant presented to Mrs Ormerod.

In addition, there are views of Euston Grove and Euston Square, one of which shows the unveiling of the London and North Western Railway war memorial by Field Marshall Earl Haig in 1921.
