Description

The collection contains 6 copy prints with accompanying negatives.

Two of the images show the east or garden front of no. 8 Kensington Palace Gardens in 1938 (just after it was divided into two residences: the southern half was numbered 8a). The since building has been demolished.

Four of the images show interiors of no. 11 Kensington Palace Gardens in 1937. Views comprise the dining room and ballroom, decorated b Alfred Stevens; and the 1st floor room over the hall showing decorative frieze painted by Walter Crane. The building has since been demolished.

Both buildings were designed by architect Owen Jones. Little work survives of this important designer.

Archival History

The collection was transferred to the NMR in 1988.
