Description

The series comprises 455 lantern slides, produced from photographs taken by Herbert Tuppen in the 1930s and 1940s, presumably for the purposes of lectures or other public viewings. Coverage is mainly of historic buildings particularly castles, cathedrals, churches and timber framed buildings, mainly in Kent, Suffolk, and Sussex. Series TUP01/01 contains the original negatives for the majority of the lantern slides, but there are 125 for which the original negatives do not exist in the collection. These include the only colour image in the collection.
