Description

An album of 76 pages with two photographs per page. The photographs are Department of the Environment prints from earlier negatives and have been give a standard number run. The appearance of the abbey concords with the date given on the album and is similar in all the prints. However the pictures were clearly not all taken on the same date as some show the abbey in winter and others in summer. Therefore a wider date range has been given than usual in case the pictures were taken in the following or preceding few years.

The pictures are mostly general views of the remains of the Abbey buildings with sme detail views of architectural features. There are also a set of prints showing stone carvings from the abbey, mostly now in the muniments room and a set showing Abbey Charters heaped up on a cloth to be photographed The Album is labelled as the 'Wainwright Collection' but it is not clear whether this indicates the photographer or indeed if all the prints were by the same photographer although the style is consistent.

There are often multiple photographs of the same view but these have often been taken under slightly different light conditions at different times.
