Description

An album of 114 pages containing 140 photographic prints.

The album has Hurst Castle written on the cover but the contents also include photographs of the lighthouse, coastguard cottages, custodians house and small pier all of which are at the end of Hurst Spit with the Castle.

The contents also include: Around 50 prints of the sea defences, including groynes and piling, built on the beach alongside the castle to prevent the castle being washed away. Photographs from the 1930s showing the rebuilding of the Pier.Near the end of the album are several views of the courtyard and roof of the henrician keep during renovations.

The castle is composed of a henrician central keep with three bastions and two Victorian wings holding large batteries.

The monument location is for Hurst Castle and Lighthouse but as these are different structures built at different times separate locations have been used in cataloguing and the monument location reserved for images of the entire point.
