Description

An album of 33 pages containing 51 prints and 3 postcards.

The postcards are on page 16 and a fourth postcard has been removed, leaving the caption.

The prints can be divided into two groups. Firstly there are 9 views from the 1920s showing the abbey ruins (Pages 1 - 4 and 17). Secondly there are four photographic jobs showing the interior and exterior of the Custodians House during conversion and the site of a proposed new hut.

The Custodians House was originally built in around 1807 and is known both as the Custodian House at Roche Abbey and Abbey House(as a separate, Grade 2 listed, structure). Both names are given for all prints but the name used in the caption is given as the contemporary name and the other as an alternative. In the early 1970s it was converted into a custodians flat on the upper floor and a ticket office, museum and public toilets on the ground floor.
