Description

An album of 162 pages containing 167 black and white photographs of Hadrian's Wall. The album covers various sites including: Benwell Temple and Vallum crossing, East Denton section, West Denton section, Hendon - on - the - wall, Corstoptum, Planetrees, Chesters Bridge Abutment, Housesteads Fort, Chesterholm (Vindolanda), Windshields Crags, Cawfield Milecastle (before guardianship), Hadrians Wall near Greenhead, Milvain Estate (west), Harrow's Scar, Birdoswald, Section west of Birdoswald Fort, Piper's Syke Turret, Leahill Turret, Banks East Turret, Poltross Burn, Black Carts and Turret 34A (Sewingshields). Each section is marked with a tab and there are title pages between several sections (these title pages have not been numbered).

There are also 9 postcard views of Corstopitum, Corbridge and Birdoswald, and a map showing Hadrians Wall.

The photographs date between 1934 and 1972 and show general and detailed views of the wall and forts along the wall. A series of shots of Housesteads are replicated in FL01007/02 and AL0753: cross references have been created where appropriate.
