Description

An album of 141 pages containing 153 prints and 2 plans showing the building of the underpass and new visitor facilities. The views show the area before work commenced, during excavations and building, and the completed block. There are also views of the opening and of a new hardcore path laid from the underpass around the stones.

The last 35 pages in the album contain one photographic job; as well as some general views of the stones and visitors facilities. This job shows new fencing erected on Stonehenge Down and distance views of the monument in the landscape from the A344 and A303. The last page contains a plan showing the positions from which these photos were taken.

The first page of the album is the inside of the front cover as a plan of has been attached there. The plan shows numbered positions from which photographs of the construction work were taken. These positions where used repeatedly in several jobs and in each case are identified by these numbers. The print from page 137 is missing: a note on the page says it was loaned in 1981.

Pages 17-31 have been removed since they duplicated images on the preceding pages.
