Description

An album of 216 pages containing 224 black and white photographic prints and 1 sketch plan (hand-drawn and dated 1966). The photographs show views in and around the Jewel Tower, Westminster, one of only 2 surviving buildings of the original Palace of Westminster. The album records renovation works undertaken in the late 1940s and 1950s, including renewal of the roof timbers (following air raids of 1941), underpinning of the western half of the tower, resetting of the parapets and the reinstatement of part of the stairs. There is also a series of views showing excavation works to the moat and removal of later drainage works. The photographs date between 1948 and 1959.
