Description

An album of 49 pages containing 55 black and white photographic prints and 2 sketch plans (hand-drawn and dated 1966). The photographs show views in and around the Jewel Tower, Westminster, one of only 2 surviving buildings of the original Palace of Westminster. The album records excavations underway in and around the moat between 1959 and 1965, views of the Jewel Tower before and after cleaning of the exterior masonry in 1971 and detail shots of a group of capitals from the Palace of Westminster exhibited in the Jewel Tower. Copyright of the latter resides with The Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art (London) Limited.
