Description

A series of 6 negatives taken for the Ministry of Works showing progress on the construction of the Honor Oak Estate in Brockley, London. The Ministry of Works was the Government department tasked under the 'Temporary Housing Act 1944/45' with alleviating the acute housing shortages in the immediate postwar years. Construction work began on the Honor Oak Estate in the early 1930s. It was planned to rehouse families displaced by slum clearance. In 1945 work continued with new flats, shops and a pub. The original Ministry of Works storage envelope lists the operator as “F”.
