Description

A series of 4 negatives taken for the Ministry of Works showing bomb damage to Brightlingsea Buildings in Limehouse, London. The Ministry of Works was the Government department tasked under the 'Temporary Housing Act 1944/45' with alleviating the acute housing shortages in the immediate postwar years. The flats were completed in 1904, based on designs drawn up by the Working Classes Branch of London County Council's Architects' Department. They were built to house the local residents who had been displaced by construction of the Rotherhithe Tunnel. The original Ministry of Works storage envelope lists the operator as “K”.
