Description

A series of 3 negatives taken for the Ministry of Works showing ceilings inside 28 Sydenham Road in Croydon. The Ministry of Works was the Government department formed in 1940, during the Second World War, and responsible for the requisitioning of property for wartime use. In the immediate post-war years it was tasked under the 'Temporary Housing Act 1944/45' with government building projects and alleviating the acute housing shortages across the country. The original Ministry of Works storage envelope lists the operator as “J”.
