Description

A series of 6 negatives taken for the Ministry of Works showing newly constructed housing, probably built for Prison staff on the Beacon Heath Estate to the north east of Exeter. The Ministry of Works was formed in 1940. In the immediate post-war years it was tasked under the 'Temporary Housing Act 1944/45' with government building projects and alleviating the acute housing shortages across the country. The original Ministry of Works storage envelope lists the operator as “D”.
