Description

A group of 7 black and white negatives, taken for the Ministry of Works showing construction of the Sulivan Court estate, near Fulham. The flats were built between circa 1949 and 1956, following the compulsory purchase by the Metropolitan Borough of Fulham of the polo ground at the Hurlingham Club. The Ministry of Works was the government department responsible for alleviating the acute housing shortages of the immediate postwar years. This was achieved through the construction of new homes (often prefabricated houses) and also by the renovation of existing housing stock. Only 4 of the 7 negatives have been catalogued in detail.
