The War Damage Commission was set up under the War Damage Act of 1941 to assess and pay compensation for damage to land, buildings and machinery throughout the UK. A number of high explosive bombs fell close to Cologne Road in during the Second World War. The Ministry of Work was the Government department tasked by the 'Temporary Housing Act 1944/45' with alleviating the acute housing shortages in the immediate postwar years. The original Ministry of Works storage envelope lists the operator as “L".
