Description

Eight black and white negatives taken for the Ministry of Works showing the construction of Ministry of Supply (M.O.S) housing at Paul's Dene, to the north of Salibury city centre. All are exterior view and show land about to be developed as well as newly built houses around Juniper Close, St Osmund's Close, Pauls Dene Crescent etc..

The Ministry of Supply was the department responsible for co-ordinating supply of equipment to the British armed forces, as well as all army and air force research establishments. In 1946 the M.O.S. took over responsibilty for atomic weapons research. The Ministry of Works was the Government department tasked under the 'Temporary Housing Act 1944/45' with alleviating the acute housing shortages in the immediate postwar years. The original Ministry of Works storage envelope lists the operator as “Mr Shepherd”.
