Description

Two black and white negatives taken by the Ministry of Works to show Prison Commission houses on Beck Road, adjacent to HM Prison Everthorpe. The negatives both show exterior views, HMP Everthorpe was created as a borstal in 1958, converting in 1991 to house male convicts.

The Prison Commission was a body established by the British Government in 1877 to administer prisons, including the provision of housing for prison staff and their families.

The Ministry of Work was the Government department tasked by the 'Temporary Housing Act 1944/45' with alleviating the acute housing shortages in the immediate postwar years.

Both negatives were catalogued in 2022.
