Description

Thirty one black and white negatives produced by the Department of the Environment Photographic Library to illustrate a report titled "Families in Flats" by Judith Littlewood and Anthea Tinker (H.M. Stationery Office, 1981). The negatives show a family group outside Bray Tower on the Chalcot Estate, near Swiss Cottage, London NW3. The estate was built in 1965-70 by Camden Council to designs of Dennis Lennon and Partners. The original packaging was labelled "Knox House, Nr Swiss Cottage, London".

The Department of the Environment (along with its predecessor bodies the Ministry of Works and The Ministry of Public Building and Works) was the department responsible for government building projects and managing post war housing requirements.

Not all of the negatives within this group have been catalogued in detail.
