Thirteen colour negatives produced for the Department of the Environment Photographic Library showing flats on the Valley Grove Estate at Charlton in the London Borough of Greenwich. Coverage includes Gooding House, Budd House, Benn House and Chaffey House. The photography was taken in support of the 'Estate Action' programme (previously the Urban Housing Renewal Unit) adminstered by the Department of the Environment. This initiative was estatablished to carry out improvements and modernisation to council managed housing estates. The 'operator' for this group is recorded as "S.G.". The Department of the Environment (along with its predecessor bodies the Ministry of Works and The Ministry of Public Building and Works) was the department responsible for government building projects and managing post war housing requirements.
