Yeovil Scarplands, Chalk and Limestone Mixed

Author(s): Jeremy Lake

The Yeovil Scarplands form an arc running from the Mendip Hills around the southern edge of the Somerset Levels and Moors to the fringes of the Blackdown Hills. They form a remote, rural landscape comprising a series of broad ridges and steep scarps separating sheltered clay vales. Less than 5% of the Character Area is urban, approximately 85% is cultivated and 4% is woodland. Around 12% of the Character Area lies within the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
