The dwellings date from the 1880s and were constructed privately to house costermongers displaced by the Whitecross Street slum clearance scheme. In 1891 they became Council property and and have been owned since 1967 by the Peabody Trust. Dufferin Street suffered damage as a result of enemy action during the Second World War and this photograph may show the subsequent repair work.
