Six black and white negatives taken by the Ministry of Works to show Prison Commission houses on an estate in Carrville, Durham. The negatives all show exterior views. The Prison Commission was a body established by the British Government in 1877 to administer prisons, including the provision of housing for prison staff and their families.
The Ministry of Work was the Government department tasked by the 'Temporary Housing Act 1944/45' with alleviating the acute housing shortages in the immediate postwar years.
Three of the six negatives were catalogued in detail in 2022.
