Stanmer Park, Falmer / Westmeston / Ditchling, Brighton and Hove, City of (UA), Lewes - South Downs (NP) / Brighton and Hove, City of (UA) / Lewes

C18 estate set in a landscape park associated with the South Downs. Bought by Brighton and Hove City Council in 1947 for public amenity although the A27 split it creating barriers to movement. With development, amenity management, antisocial behaviour, the 1987 storm and traffic all harmful to the historic character and fabric. Parks for People funding delivered a Conservation Management Plan to define and sustain significance and a £3.75 million grant to improve parking, access and convert the walled garden. Restoration works to the walled garden and woodland management have now started.
