The Dovercourt lighthouses and causeway, Harwich - Tendring

Believed to be a unique example of a C19 prefabricated lighthouse and probably commissioned by Trinity House. The lights may represent an early use of screw foundations, which were helix or screw-bladed iron sections were driven into soft ground to provide solid foundations for the legs. As well as marking a milestone in the history of lighthouse design and in the sequence of navigational aids developed for this important deep water harbour, the 'Lights' are a well-regarded landscape feature. Fabric deteriorating. Survey undertaken 2018 to inform future repair proposals.
