Outer terrace wall, north of Lowther Castle, Near Penrith, Lowther - Lake District (NP)
Battlemented, sandstone ashlar garden wall, built 1806 to1819 by Smirke. It encloses the north terrace of Lowther Castle, at the centre of the extensive registered park. Parts of the wall, including the separately listed central lodge, have been repaired, with new stone sensitively pieced in where necessary. Elsewhere, there are open joints to large sections of the outer terrace wall, with some missing stones, blown faces and vegetation growth.
