Harrogate War Memorial listed at Grade II*
Harrogate War Memorial has been listed at Grade II*. This means that it's particularly important and of more than special interest.
It's rare because it includes women in the Roll of Honour and emphasises their names. Only 5.8% of listed buildings and structures are given this category of listing.
Otley War Memorial Cross and Memorial Garden
The newly listed Grade II war memorial is a rare example of a war memorial sculpted by a female sculptor. Barbara Collingwood created the war memorial from a design of her fathers, William Gershom Collingwood.
Help us to protect war memorials
War memorials are important reminders of the bravery of those who served in the war. Historic England has pledged to protect 2,500 memorials by 2018, marking the centenary of the end of the First World War. You can help protect your war memorial by putting it forward for listing.
