The plaque reads:
'Rules to be observ'd by Ringers.
Put off your Hats, your Bells & Spurs.
And when you ring make no Demurs.
Sound out Bells well if you can.
Silence is best for ev'ry Man.
But if a Bell you overthrow.
Six Pence unto the Clerk you owe.
