MORCHARD BISHOP SS 70 NW 4/103 - Calves Bridge - II

Road bridge over River Datch. Late C18. Early C19. Volcanic rubble with squared blocks confined to abuttments and cutwaters. 2 span bridge comprising 2 segmental plain arches with rubble voussoirs. The abutments are angled back to the bank on the upstream (north) only. Central pointed cutwaters on both sides carried up only as far as road level with semi-pyramid tops. Rubble parapet rises slightly to the the centre following the rise of the road. The parapet walls sweep outwards on each side. River Datch forms parish boundary with Lapford Parish at this point.
