BISHOPS WALTHAM ST. PETER'S STREET SU 55 17 9/24 North House 6.3.67 GV II

House. Of timber-framed origin, mainly C18, with late C19 rear extensions.

Front walls of stucco, other walls of brickwork in Flemish Garden Wall bond, some cambered openings. Tile roof, three flat-roofed dormers. East front elevation of two storeys and attic, four windows. Sashes in exposed frames.

Doorway with a pediment canopy on carved brackets, architrave and 5-panelled door. An C18 rear wing at the north side has a 1st floor Venetian sash window, and there is a small Venetian casement window above it: the former rear wall between the wings has a Venetian staircase window, partly masked by a conserv- atory. Inside, most of the features are late C18, including a staircase and corner cupboard. The site has revealed several stone architectural details including a square column with cap and base. (thought to be Saxon because a Saxon minster church existed in the vicinity).
